Bobster Technology
ANSI-Approved
Eyewear
Select Bobster® Eyewear has undergone
evaluation through the ANSI Z87.1-2003 Spectacles Complete and
Spectacles RX Safety Frame Test. The styles approved indicate that our
eyewear has passed tests for specific performance standards for both
high velocity and high mass impact. They are ideal for law-enforcement,
military, construction, laboratory, or industrial usage.
All Bobster® Eyewear has
undergone evaluation through the ANSI Z80.3-2001 Compliance Testing.
Bobster® lenses pass the optical quality testing according to the ANSI
Z80.3-2001 requirements for cosmetic quality, refractive power
difference, astigmatic power, prismatic power, luminous transmittance,
and drop ball impact testing.
Anti-fog
Coating
Bobster® lenses that feature anti-fog
coating provide extra resistance against fog build-up and blurred
vision.
Foam
Many
styles of Bobster® eyewear come with foam, either open cell, closed
cell, or both. Adding foam reduces wind flow, prevents debris from
getting into eyes and reduces vibration.
Open cell foam tends to
be lighter, softer and more sweat absorbing than closed cell foam. Open
cell foam also has a tendency to provide a better seal or fit because
it is softer and conforms to the contours of the face.
Closed
cell foam has low water absorption, while being weather and chemical
resistant. It also provides some ventilation to reduce fogging and has a
tendency to be longer lasting than open cell foam.
Grilamid TR90 Construction
Bobster®
eyewear frames made of Grilamid TR90, offer durability and greater
flexibility. Grilamid is a nylon compound, which is shock resistant,
non-allergenic and extremely lightweight. These frames are flexible and
allow the eyewear to flex to the contours of the face creating a better
more personalized fit which allows for longer wear without any
discomfort.
Photochromic
Lenses
Bobster® Photochromic lenses are available in
a variety of eyewear styles and are lenses that are precision designed
to automatically adjust to the amount of ultraviolet light (UV) that
reaches the lens. The advantage of a Photochromic lens is that you can
wear your eyewear from morning into evening and not have to carry
multiple sets of eyewear with you or change your lenses throughout the
day. Bobster® offers a wide range of eyewear with photochromic lenses
with varying transmission rates. Transmission rate is the amount of
visible light penetrating the lens and reaching the eyes. The lower the
transmission rate the lighter the lens color. Clear lenses have a
transmission rate between 80%-100% and typical smoked lenses have a
transmission rate between 8-18%.
**Please note do not leave
photochromic lenses in direct sun or extreme heat for long periods of
time. They will decrease their performance of getting dark.
Polarized Lenses
While ordinary
tinted lenses reduce brightness, only polarized lenses eliminate glare.
Polarization is achieved by placing a thin sheet of polarized film
between two layers of material. Polarized lenses work well for boaters,
fishermen, skiers, golfers, bikers, and joggers, who require a clearer
view and elimination of glare. These sunglasses, when used for driving,
can reduce the glare that comes off the car of the surface of a road.
Polarized sunglasses can also be used indoors by light-sensitive people.
Polycarbonate Lenses
All Bobster®
Eyewear feature thin, lightweight and strong polycarbonate lenses that
provide distortion free optical quality. Polycarbonate lenses are the
preferred lenses for the majority of performance eyewear, and are ideal
for those who ride motorcycles, or participate in watersports, winter
sports, hunting, etc. Unlike ordinary lenses, polycarbonate lenses are
shatter-resistant and will NOT splinter if hit by fast-moving objects,
such as debris and small stones. Our Bobster® designs are fitted with
premium quality shatter-resistant polycarbonate lenses meeting the
American ANSI standard for UV protection. This provides complete
protection from invisible ultraviolet light that can be damaging to the
eye.

your eyewear to your personal vision.
Currently any Bobster Ballistics item that uses bezel lenses for RX
capability is not approved for ballistics usage because currently there
is no MCEPS testing standard for RX bezel lenses. However, the bezel
lenses have been fully certified to the ANSI Z87.1-2003+ testing and
impact standards.
UVA/UVB
Protection
All Bobster® Eyewear provides 100%
UVA/UVB (harmful ultraviolet light) protection. Without protection, the
eyes are susceptible to damage from ultraviolet rays.
